The question of how to nurture the individual in each student
is an extremely important theme in education amid internationalisation
and the information age, and henceforth for Japan the cultivation
of globally-minded people who can use English freely on an international
stage is essential.
In order to work towards that goal, we opened in April of 2004
Linden Hall Elementary School, in Dazaifu in Fukuoka Prefecture.
We wish to provide a top class education, fitted to the needs
of the world in the 21st century, which takes a broad view of
the self and extends the abilities and individuality of each
student. Beginning with the adoption of English immersion education,
through development of IT and presentation skills, and in experiencing
at first hand Japanese culture, we have a highly original curriculum
that respects the dreams and individuality of each student.
We will strive to refine studentsユ special qualities as Japanese
while at the same time providing with our outstanding foreign
staff an international educational environment, and we seek
to be a school that builds childrenユs independence and individuality.
We are an immersion school that aims for an education
not for passing outmoded university entrance exams, but that
enhances and extends individuality, creativity and the ability
to communicate, essential skills for a globally active person.
In order to further extend the individuality and abilities cultivated
at elementary school, we have in our sights the establishment
of junior and senior high school divisions.
メExtend their individuality, give them confidence, and send
them forth into the worldモ
This is our dream and our lifeユs work.
The school grounds cover an area of 20,000m2.
Within this space are all-grass playing areas, the school building,
with all the latest facilities and equipment, and features such
as an athletic zone that makes use of the topography of the
natural woods, a watermill, rice paddy, field, tea house, pottery
kiln and workshop, and a biotope. It is an educational environment
where learning takes place through first-hand experience, and
is not confined to the top of a desk.
Linden Hall is also a declared CO2 reduction school.
Viewed from outside, the novel
design of the glass-panelled building in the shape of
a linden leaf. Inside, a welcoming space in which the
wood of the linden tree is used liberally throughout.
The design has been made putting the children first.
●
Safety…It is not merely the light aspect
that prompted the use of glass throughout, but also, with
importance attached to security, consideration was given
to a building where the children could be watched over
from anywhere.
●
Comfort…A huge reduction in UV. Special
double-glazed glass has been used that prevents condensation
and has outstanding noise-proofing. The air-conditioning
system is fully capable of heating or cooling the school.
●
Environment…Winner of Urban Beautification
Award from Fukuoka Prefecture.
